MUR0NE

Rationale

Artwork title: New Scenario

When Iker Muro first arrived in Australia from Spain, he was captivated by the level crossing signals on the outskirts of Benalla. Those rhythmic, black and white striped bars – designed to command attention and halt traffic – became the foundational motif of his visual vocabulary. He transforms these utilitarian roadside markers into bold, geometric structures that mirror the surrounding regional landscape.

To bring his compositions to life, Muro employs a unique, tactile technique. Using a broom, he sweeps energetic black squiggles across the surface, creating a dynamic contrast to the rigid, vertical poles. This physical, performative action allows him to interact directly with the wall, grounding the abstract forms in a visceral, immediate way.

By balancing these structured, site specific references with spontaneous, sweeping gestures, Muro elevates everyday infrastructure into a compelling dialogue. He invites viewers to rediscover the hidden graphic beauty in the functional objects we encounter on our daily journeys.

About Mur0ne

Mur0ne is a largely self-taught artist whose career spans graphic design, graffiti and muralism. Beginning casually before evolving into a profession, his background in design strongly informs his contemporary practice. Working between geometric abstraction, expressionism and psychedelic figurative imagery, he creates bold, immersive works defined by primary colours, sharp contrasts and high saturation. Muralism is his preferred medium, with large-format works across public spaces worldwide, including fields, stands, tunnels and ceilings. His monumental approach has established him as a reference point for immersive art. As he explains, “Abstract geometry and illustration are my passion, broadly defining my work.”
