JUZPOP

Rationale

Artwork Title: Open your eyes

JUZPOP has pushed the boundaries of scale and intimacy with this installation. Stretching across 6×14 metres of brickwork, the mural is the culmination of rigorous double exposure experimentation. JUZPOP strips away the artifice of portraiture, fusing the likeness of the MSWIM vocalist with the atmospheric intensity of the sky.

Double exposure is a photographic technique where two separate images are layered into a single frame. By exposing the same film or sensor twice, the camera records both scenes simultaneously, resulting in an ethereal, translucent image where one subject ghosts into the other. Historically, this involved manipulating film advancement to overlay shots, relying on the interplay of highlights and shadows to turn the lighter areas of the first frame into a canvas for the second.

By merging these distinct visual planes, JUZPOP moves beyond literal documentation.
The technique forces a collision of textures and narratives, creating a singular, emotive landscape that charts a visceral journey from darkness toward light. Drawing inspiration from the raw vulnerability found in the vocalist’s music, JUZPOP has crafted a work that feels both infinite and deeply personal, utilising this photographic process in painting to articulate profound human emotion.
