Rationale
“In today’s high-tech era, I find it vital to reconnect with simplicity. Observing younger generations immersed in digital media prompts nostalgia for my outdoor childhood adventures. This artwork celebrates the enduring importance of ‘low-tech joy’, like biking and building carts, which remains as valuable now as in the past.”
About Tim
After spending years in the design industry, Tim Bowtell left Geelong and moved to Samaria, where he began to focus on his art. He represents Benalla as this year’s local artist. He painted his first aerosol mural of Gandhi as part of the local 2016 street art festival, and also painted 2017. Since then, he has soared to new heights and you’ll find Bowtell’s art on silos and walls around the North East Victorian region.
Curator’s Choice
Zammit says, “I met Tim when he last painted in Benalla and I have watched his profile rise. He’s the local town hero and this year, we’re providing him a canvas to show off his large-scale prowess.”
